Tom

Name: Tom

Been a Swimming Teacher for: Since around 2011.

What made you want to be a teacher? I was lifeguarding at a pool in Bushey and watching the lessons going on and I thought to myself “maybe I could give this a try” so I spoke to Hayley who ran the lessons there at the time encouraged me to do the courses and helped me in the early days when I was more nervous. So basically Hayley is responsible for me being here today!

What’s your favourite skill to teach? Butterfly, competitive Breaststroke and all the starts and turns for all the strokes and individual medley.

Which stage do you think is the hardest? Stage 5, because you have to learn to swim Butterfly and Breaststroke full strokes, do some advanced skulling and be able to forward roll.

Have you got a funny swimming story? One kid I used to teach thought that Breaststroke was actually called Breath Stroke because you have to take a breath on every stroke.

Where in the world would you like to swim? I think I’ve already completed my bucket list. Been tothe 2 best waterparks in the UK and the best waterpark in the world, been to the Great Barrier Reef and also swam at the Olympic pool in London.

Tell me something interesting about you? I play the trumpet for various bands and singers. 2 bands I play with (Mark and the Clouds and Lakes) have got new records coming out this summer.
